Communications Coaching

Coach Woody’s Wisdom:
Communication in the 21st Century

True wisdom can come only from years of making common mistakes and then rising up and learning from one’s own poor choices made in the real world. This you cannot get in a university classroom or from an online degree.

I offer communications coaching to share what I have learned. I believe that wisdom only is yours after you choose to live in the real world, where you stumble, you cut yourself accidentally, you bleed, you fall, and then you get up onto your own two feet and start doing things differently.

Not what you were expecting, right? But, if you want to benefit from my wisdom, here we go:

We begin by first looking into the past. Those who only look at the present and the future will have no foundation for attaining wisdom.

Long ago, communication was thought of as a linear process. This old fashioned concept envisioned a sender who sent meaning in messages to a receiver like this:

SENDER ——> RECEIVER

With today’s technology, however, communication a lot more complicated and may not take a straight line path. To know and understand communication in the 21st century, you must be aware of a handful of core functions that we humans are known for. These have not changed much over the centuries.

Each is very important to know and understand:

(1) Thinking — Since meaning and ideas start in a person’s mind, how you use your brain is always the first thing to consider if you are trying to improve your communication success. It is true that in order for any person in any language to communicate effectively, the person must first think and reason clearly and effectively.

(2) Speaking — The ability to interact using complex, spoken language is one of the defining traits of being human. Most significantly, the ability to speak persuasively has historically separated those people who lead from those who follow.

(3) Writing — Human language has evolved from purely verbal to the far more complex mode of putting meaning and ideas into words that can live longer than any person ever can. Writing down words effectively so that we can share meaning and ideas with others persuasively is an essential skill everyone must have in today’s world who hopes to enjoy the thrill of success.

(4) Sharing — We humans enjoy sharing our culture and all those things that we find meaningful to us. Although today’s technology certainly has given us many amazing and powerful new ways to share, what has not changed very much is the process of sharing in ways that will win over other people.

These four building blocks or essential ingredients of effective human communication today are each worth knowing and understanding. You may explore each at this website at your own pace in any order that you choose. Keep in mind that all of the communications coaching solutions that I provide to clients start with these four human behaviors:

THINK      SPEAK      WRITE      SHARE

I offer communications consulting services upon request. Each of these services is priced separately based on the complexity of the job. I will work with you to negotiate a fair price.
